Private tutor in Maplewood, MN
Education
I recently earned my BA in social sciences from Metropolitan State University. My academic focus was on cultural anthropology, but I am familiar with a wide range of disciplines, such as sociology, philosophy, and all manner of writing. I served as poetry editor, and subsequently managing editor, of Haute Dish – Metro State's arts and literary magazine. I received an academic achievement scholarship, and finished with a 3.65 GPA. I was one of only two students to successfully complete both capstone projects – conceptual and empirical – offered by my department. I am a self-taught musician with over twenty years of experience playing guitar and drums, and I have been writing poetry and personal essays for as long as I can remember.
Experience
While I have never been an official tutor, I spent much of my time in college helping my fellow students to better comprehend classroom materials. Based on those experiences, and the encouraging responses I received from my professors, I realized that teaching is something I am capable of and would like to pursue. As a tutor, I would be taking another step towards realizing that goal.

Hobbies
I love spending time with my four year-old son, especially playing games and teaching him basic math and language skills. I like to write and play music, to cook, and to do hands-on projects that challenge me in new ways. I read whenever I get the chance – mostly non-fiction books in the social science genre, but fiction still grabs my attention from time to time. I also love to study language, and am currently picking up from where I left off after my high school Spanish course.
